THE ACTION
- Adelphi had a handful of near misses early that didn't end up on net, as first-year Alexis Hellman went just over the crossbar in the 10th minute before classmate Carly Issing had a point-blank bid blocked in the 15th minute and slipped a shot just outside the left post in the 23rd minute.
- The Purple Knights got on the board at 36:19 on their first shot. While possessing in the Adelphi end of the field, junior Paulina Valentine (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) made a short pass to first-year Christina Cummings (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury), who laid the ball off for Rogers. The junior struck the upper right corner from 30 yards, potting her second goal from distance this season.
- Escobedo made a diving save of senior Jessica Petry's header toward the right post in the 41st minute to keep the hosts up 1-0 at halftime.
- Escobedo was only credited with three saves during the second half but was active throughout the box, covering numerous loose balls while under pressure, sliding out to gain possession in the 53rd minute, jumping to catch a long bouncer in the 65th minute and snagging another ball in the box during the 80th.
- Petry's long shot from the right sideline carried in the wind during the 69th minute and hit the upper part of the crossbar.
- Adelphi finally broke through in the 84th minute, converting a giveaway in the Saint Michael's end after sophomore Kayla Mushorn crossed through the box toward the left side for Lada, who finished into the left corner.
- Escobedo ensured overtime with a kick save at the 88-minute mark, knocking away Lada's one-touch bid out front.
- Senior Eleonora D'Angelo fired a shot from 20 yards just 28 seconds into overtime, but Escobedo secured the catch near the right post.
- Saint Michael's had a chance of its own in the waning seconds of the initial extra session, as first-year Elani Gikas (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) sent a free kick from just inside midfield into the box, but neither team got a touch.
- In the second overtime, Escobedo reached across her body and behind senior Madison Raposo to catch a corner kick entry in the 102nd minute, negating the Panther opportunity.
- Valentine had a chance of her own later on, driving a long shot through the wind that forced Hofmeier to make a save at the left post in the 108th minute.
