COLCHESTER, Vt. - Three Saint Michael's College women's soccer players earned Northeast 10 Conference weekly awards for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 26. Sophomore
Scarlett Brookes (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) claimed Player of the Week for the second time this fall, classmate
Julia Palmese (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) landed her third Defensive Player of the Week nod, and first-year
Chloe Laizer (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) was lauded as Goalkeeper of the Week for her initial accolade.

Brookes tallied two goals and two assists during a 2-0 week. In a 3-0 win at Dominican (N.Y.) University last Tuesday, she assisted an insurance tally in the 56th minute before adding a goal of her own two minutes later. Brookes potted the 28th-minute winner during a key 3-0 win over regionally-ranked Adelphi University on Saturday before handing out the primary helper on the third goal in the 65th minute. Brookes leads the league in game-winning goals (5), is second in goals (10) and points (25), and stands tied for fifth in assists (5). Her five game-winning goals are the most by a Purple Knight since complete records became available in 1996, and she has slid into a tie for 10th in program history in season goals and points.
Judy Cronin '06 was the last Saint Michael's player with 10 goals in a season, in 2002. Brookes has five goals and five assists during a current seven-game points streak.

Palmese anchored a back line that posted two shutouts during a 2-0 week, extending the Purple Knights' shutout streak to five games. Saint Michael's allowed only two shots - and none on net - in a 3-0 win at Dominican on Tuesday before surrendering just five shots on target during a 3-0 victory against regionally-ranked Adelphi on Saturday. Palmese helped her team break a school record with 11 shutouts this fall, as well as hand the Panthers their first regular-season shutout in more than two years.

Laizer did not allow a goal in 165:26 of action last week, stopping every shot sent her way. She earned the win thanks to 75:26 of perfect play in a 3-0 win at Dominican on Tuesday before making five saves in a 3-0 victory over regionally-ranked Adelphi on Saturday. Laizer leads the NE10 in wins (13), goals-against average (0.73) and shutouts (7), having set a school record for victories while tying the rookie mark for shutouts. She is one shutout short of the overall record. Laizer is already seventh in program history in career shutouts and tied for seventh in wins.

The Purple and Gold, which is fifth in this week's United Soccer Coaches East Region rankings, stands a school-record 13-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in NE10 play, and has two regular-season games remaining. The Purple Knights visit Franklin Pierce University, which is fourth in the East and earned national votes, on Saturday at 2 p.m.
