Brent Hill '04 Named to 2026 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Coaching Staff

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey alumnus Brent Hill '04 has been selected as a 2026 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team assistant coach, USA Hockey announced last Friday. One of four assistant coaches chosen for head coach John Wroblewski's staff, Hill and Team USA begin competition at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Winter Games in Italy on Feb. 5.

Now in his fifth season as an assistant coach with Division I Quinnipiac University's women's ice hockey program, Hill is a long-time coach and camp instructor with USA Hockey. As an assistant coach, he helped the U.S. Women's National Team take gold at world championships in 2023 and 2025 and silver in 2024, facing rival Canada in the finale each year. Hill has served on the United States-Canada Rivalry Series coaching staff since 2023; Team USA leads 2-0 this year by an aggregate 10-2 scoring advantage heading into Wednesday's third game in Edmonton.

During his debut tournament on the international stage, Hill and the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team won the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 Women's World Championship, knocking off Canada in the gold-medal game.

Hill also has an impressive college coaching résumé, which currently sees him working with forwards and the power-play unit at Quinnipiac, which has produced more than a dozen Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) players since its founding in 2023. The Bobcats are 117-48-9 with two NCAA Tournaments since his arrival, and stand eighth in this week's U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division I national poll.

A native of Saint Albert, Alberta, Hill posted 44 points in 86 games as a Purple Knight defenseman, helping the squad win postseason crowns each of his final three seasons, including claiming the inaugural Northeast 10 Conference Championship in 2003-04, when Hill was the team's lone captain. He was twice named all-conference and, in 2004, earned the College's Victor V. LeMieux '35 Award, which honors loyalty and leadership.

Following graduation, Hill served as an assistant coach with the Saint Michael's women's ice hockey team in 2006-07 and 2007-08. He also spent two years as the director of player development for the Tier I Vermont Stars girls' program, was head coach of the 14U Stars in 2008 and 2009, and assisted the Tier I Green Mountain Glades boys for two seasons. Hill helped the Division I Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's program qualify for three postseason appearances in four years as an assistant (2009-13) before joining Merrimack College as women's associate head coach for the next four years (2013-17), helping build a program that made its debut in 2015-16. Between 2017 and 2021, Hill was program director and head coach of the Bishop Kearney Selects in Rochester, N.Y.

The U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team opens play on Feb. 5 against Czechia at 4:40 p.m. local/10:40 a.m. ET. During Group A preliminary-round action, Team USA also faces Finland on Feb. 7, Switzerland on Feb. 9, and Canada on Feb. 10. The U.S. and Canada have combined to win 13 of 14 gold and silver medals since women's ice hockey debuted at the 1998 Nagano Games. The countries have met for gold at the past four Olympic Games, and six times in seven Olympic Games, with the U.S. winning in 1998 and 2018. For more information, visit here.
