COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College
women's soccer team (5-8-2, 4-7-2 NE-10) fell to Adelphi,
2-1, at Duffy Field on Saturday. The Purple Knights honored their
four seniors in the final home game of the 2010 season, paying
homage to Mary Diebold (Northfield, Vt./Northfield), Liz
Freiberger (South Walpole, Mass./Walpole), Katie Murphy
(Woodbridge, Conn./Amity Regional) and Jenn
Senecal (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) during the pregame
ceremonies.
For Adelphi (6-5-1, 6-5-0 NE-10), senior Emily Dunne
(Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) headed in the
Panthers' first goal in the 14th minute, assisted
by senior Kristen Dexter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) and
senior Brianne McDonnell (Commack, N.Y./Commack).
McDonnell then netted a goal in the 70th minute off a
pass from sophomore Kaitlin Monteith (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer
Park) to put Adelphi up by two.
Sophomore Cassie Crockett (Gilmanton,
N.H./Gilford) cut the deficit in half when she trapped a
pass from Senecal and blasted a shot into the right corner of the
net in the 78th minute, but the Panthers held on for the
2-1 victory.
Junior goalie Brittany Cocozza (East Greenwich,
R.I./East Greenwich (Saint John's)) made three saves
for the Purple Knights, and junior keeper Dorothy Connolly
(Bethpage, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) stopped six shots
for Adelphi.
The Purple Knights return to action on Tuesday when they travel
to Saint Rose to face the undefeated Golden Knights, who are
currently ranked #1 in the nation.
