COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College
men's soccer team (7-5-4, 4-4-4 NE-10) fought through 110
minutes of soccer on its way to a 0-0 tie with Stonehill (6-7-2,
4-6-2 NE-10) at Duffy Field on Tuesday. The decision gives the
Purple Knights 16 points in the Northeast-10 Conference standings,
moving them ahead of New Haven and keeping them ahead of Stonehill.
Tonight's conference games will determine where Saint
Michael's will fall in the playoff mix with one game
left.
The Skyhawks came out firing and outshot the Purple Knights 14-1
in the first half. Stonehill challenged Saint Michael's
sophomore goalie Logan Kingman (New Bern,
N.C./New Bern) with plenty of long-range shots, but the
keeper made nine saves to record his sixth shutout of the
season.
The Purple Knights' best chance came late in the second
overtime when sophomore Ian Rowe (Waterville,
Maine/Waterville Senior) raced down the right sideline and
made a sharp cross in front of the net. The ball skipped past
several defenders but rolled just out of the reach of senior
Ryan Gannon (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy (Central Conn.
State)), who slid a split second too late.
Stonehill senior goalie Brandon McFarlane (Norwich,
Conn./Norwich Free Academy) made two saves for the
Skyhawks, who have one game remaining against winless Saint
Rose.
The Purple Knights play their final regular season game on
Saturday when they host league-leading Franklin Pierce at 12 p.m.
