COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College
women's soccer team (5-5-2, 4-4-2 NE-10) picked up the 1-0
win over American International College (6-4-0, 8-4-0 NE-10) at
Duffy Field on Friday, marking the team's fourth win in five
games.
For the Purple Knights, freshman Katie Butler (Sayville,
N.Y./Saint Anthony's) deposited her first career
goal early in the second half off a pass from classmate
Jordyn Mallett (Winslow, Maine/Winslow).
Butler's blast from just inside the 18 yard line gave the
Purple Knight's their third 1-0 decision in as many
games.
The Yellow Jackets narrowly outshot Saint Michael's, 11-8,
and edged the home team in corner kicks, 7-6, but could not find
the back of the net.
Junior goalie Brittany Cocozza (East Greenwich,
R.I./East Greenwich (Saint John's)) made three saves
and recorded her fifth shutout of the season. Graduate student
Kara Potts (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) stopped
three shots for the Yellow Jackets.
The Purple Knights hit the road to face Assumption on Sunday at
3 p.m.
