EASTON, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team
(1-2-0, 0-1-0 Northeast-10 Conference) lost its league opener on
Friday afternoon, falling at Stonehill College, 2-1.
For Stonehill (3-1-0), Kirstie St. Martin
scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, with her second
tally of the game coming with just 1:10 left in regulation.
Sarah Hickey stopped five shots to pick up the
win.
Sophomore Megan Olsen (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem
Central) netted a first-half, unassisted goal for Saint
Michael's. Junior Brittany Cocozza (East Greenwich,
R.I./East Greenwich (Saint John's)) turned aside six shots
in the loss.
Olsen opened the scoring in the 27th minute with her first score
of the year, but less than two minutes later, St. Martin evened the
score off of an assist from Caitlin McEvily. The
game remained tied at 1-all for the next 60 minutes, until St.
Martin found the back of the net again off of an assist from
Kelsey Mahoney.
Stonehill held a commanding 26-9 edge in shots, including 16-3
in the second half.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Sunday, as the Purple
Knights play their first home game of the season versus Bentley
University at 3 p.m. on Duffy Field.
