COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College
women's soccer team fought through 110 minutes of scoreless
soccer and worked a 0-0 tie against Bentley University in the
Purple Knights' home opener at Duffy Field on Sunday. There
was no shortage of chances for either squad, with Saint
Michael's outshooting the Eagles (0-1-2, 0-1-2 NE-10) 16-11
and taking eight corner kicks in the first half.
For Saint Michael's (1-2-1, 0-1-1 NE-10) , junior
Laura Ostrout (Northfield, Vt./Northfield) came
closest to cracking the scoreboard when she drilled a shot off the
crossbar 29 minutes into the first half. Senior Jenn
Senecal (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) also came within inches
of scoring in the second half, blasting a shot off the bar in the
76th minute.
Both goalies proved unbreakable in net, with senior Kara
Smith (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) making
seven saves for Bentley and junior Brittany Cocozza
(Cranston, R.I./East Greenwich (Saint John's))
making six stops for Saint Michael's.
The Purple Knights travel to Franklin Pierce on Wednesday for a
7 p.m. game.
