COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team (1-3-2, 0-2-2 Northeast-10 Conference) saw its winless skid reach five games on Saturday with a 2-1 setback to Southern Connecticut State University on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.

For Southern Connecticut (4-1-1, 2-1-1 NE-10), junior Jenna Mallico (Milford, Conn.) and freshman Laura Barberia (Pamplona, Spain) netted a goal apiece, while junior Suzane Pires (Sao Paulo, Brazil) assisted on both goals. Senior Katie DiDio (Vernon, Conn.) recorded five saves as the Owls won their second straight contest.

For the Purple Knights, junior Kristin Hagenbarth (Killington, Vt./Woodstock Union (Vermont)) scored her first goal of the season off of an assist from senior Jenn Senecal (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth). Junior Brittany Cocozza (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich (Saint John's)) stopped five shots in the loss.

SCSU opened the scoring in the 14th minute, as Barberia connected off of a feed from Pires for her second score of the season. The Owls maintained their 1-0 edge for the remainder of the first half.

Saint Michael's evened the score at 1-all five minutes into the second half, as Hagenbarth won a scrum in front of the Owls' net and took advantage of DiDio's aggressiveness. The score remained tied for the next eight minutes, but SCSU regained a one-goal lead in the 59th minute, as Mallico's blast from a sharp angle slipped through Cocozza's hands. That was all the Owls needed, despite Saint Michael's outshooting SCSU 8-3 in the second half.

SCSU held a slim 11-10 advantage in shots, and a 9-8 edge in corner kicks. SCSU also committed 16 of the game's 26 fouls.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights host league-rival Merrimack College at 4 p.m. SCSU visits crosstown-rival University of New Haven on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
