RINDGE, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (5-17)
couldn't contain 14th-ranked Franklin Pierce University on Thursday
evening, falling in game one, 13-2, and in game two, 11-1.
In the opener, Franklin Pierce scored in each of the first four
innings, and broke open the contest with a five-run sixth inning,
to earn the win. Ross Lincoln belted his second
home run of the season for the Ravens, added a single, and drove in
four runs to lead the way. Mike Munoz and
Nick LaCroix both doubled twice, with LaCroix
scoring four runs and Munoz adding two runs and an RBI.
Steven Hathaway struck out 10 in six innings to
improve to 6-1 on the season.
For Saint Michael's, senior Pete Estes (Bennington,
Vt./Mount Anthony Union) singled twice and drove in a run,
while junior Tim McDonnell (Durham, N.H./Oyster
River) singled and scored a run. Sophomore Collin
Fishman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) took the
loss, allowing nine runs in 5.1 innings. Junior Jesse
Sullivan (Saugus, Mass./Pingree School) pitched well in
relief for the Purple Knights, as he struck out three and allowed
just two hits in three scoreless innings.
In the seven-inning nightcap, Franklin Pierce (32-7) recorded 13
base hits to complete the sweep. Derek Ingui
homered, tripled, and tallied four RBIs and three runs scored in
the win, while Lacroix had two singles, two stolen bases and three
runs scored. Dan Kemp and Isaac
Wenrich tallied two singles apiece, while Gregg
Downing threw five innings to earn the win and improve to
6-0 on the year.
For the Purple Knights, sophomore Jacob Begnoche (Essex,
Vt./Essex/Univ. of Vermont) tripled and scored on a single
from junior Bryan Geary (Milton,
Vt./Milton/Skidmore) in the second inning. Estes added a
double in the nightcap, while sophomore Andrew Kelley
(Lincoln, N.H./Lin-Wood) allowed four earned runs in five
innings to drop to 1-2 on the season.
Saint Michael's is back in action on Friday, as the Purple
Knights host Saint Lawrence University in a doubleheader starting
at 2:30 p.m. on Doc Jacobs Field.
