Box Score
EASTON, Mass. - For the second consecutive game, the Saint Michael's College women's soccer team needed an overtime period to decide the outcome, as sophomore Christine Moodie (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) scored with 1:15 remaining in the first extra stanza to give Stonehill College a 2-1 win on Wednesday in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Skyhawk Field. The Purple Knights drop to 0-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in NE-10 play, while Stonehill moves to 3-0 and 2-0.
Sophomore Carley Pestana (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) scored her first career goal for the Purple Knights, while first-year Kaylee Sullivan (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) made four saves in her second start of the season. Saint Michael's held an 18-13 advantage in shots but saw the hosts take six of the game's seven corner kicks.
Moodie and sophomore Renee Trudeau (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) both finished with a goal and an assist for the Skyhawks, and junior Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) made six saves.
Trudeau put Stonehill on the board early at 11:39 on a feed from Moodie. The 1-0 advantage held up until fewer than three minutes remained in regulation. After the Skyhawks missed a pair of chances to pad their lead in the 86th minute, with one shot hitting the post and another being denied by Sullivan, Pestana converted a free kick at 87:24 to knot the game. Only a single shot was registered in overtime, by the Purple Knights in the 99th minute, until Moodie found the back of the net less than a minute later on a pass from Trudeau to give the Skyhawks the 2-1 victory.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday when it travels to face Assumption College for a 4 p.m. contest.
