BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team completed play at the Dowling College Tournament on Sunday, falling to Molloy College, 3-0, at Golden Lions Field. With the loss the Purple Knights drop to 0-2, while the Lions improve to 1-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Aubrey Ouellet (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) played the first half for Saint Michael's, turning away three shots. First-year keeper Kaylee Sullivan (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) made her collegiate debut in the second half, as she played the entire period and made two saves. The Purple Knights held advantages of 13-11 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks during the contest.
First-year Alicia Mercurio (Williston Park, N.Y./Mineola) connected for a pair of goals and assisted the other for Molloy, while junior Sami Saad (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) also found the back of the net. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) made six saves.
Mercurio put Molloy on the board 15 seconds into the game before assisting on Saad's tally at 28:04. The Purple Knights made a late attempt to pull to within striking distance, registering three shots between the 80th and 84th minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net. Mercurio added a second goal with 13 ticks remaining.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday for its 1:30 p.m. home opener against Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College.
