RINDGE, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team yielded only a pair of second-half tallies to Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday but fell by a 2-0 count in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sodexo Field. The Purple Knights are winless in 10 contests, including eight in the league, while the Ravens are 4-4-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the NE-10.
Sophomore Kaylee Sullivan (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) made two stops for the visitors, as each team attempted 11 shots and one corner kick. First-year Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) netted both markers for Franklin Pierce, while sophomore Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) worked the eight-save shutout.
Early in the second half, the Purple Knights garnered a 46th-minute corner kick while looking to break the scoreless tie, but senior Jordyn Mallett's (Winslow, Maine/Winslow) ensuing shot was denied by Weldon. Soon thereafter, Finlay netted the winner, hitting the lower left corner of the net from the center of the box at 48:19. Sophomore Gabrielle Kondracki (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) tried to counter a minute later for Saint Michael's but was turned away by Weldon.
In the 75th minute, Finlay doubled the lead, collecting a loose ball off a scramble in front and scoring. The Purple Knights nearly cut the deficit in half in the 77th minute, but senior Meagan Brady (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley/Vermont) rung a shot off the post before being stopped by the goalkeeper in the 79th minute.
Saint Michael's continues a three-game road swing on Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University at 7 p.m.
