Women's soccer draws scoreless tie with regionally-ranked Saint Anselm

Box Score

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie against regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College during Northeast-10 Conference action at Duffy Field on Tuesday. The Purple Knights move to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the league, while the Hawks are 4-1-2 and 2-1-2. Saint Anselm is ranked eighth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region poll.

Saint Michael's senior goalkeeper Aubrey Ouellet (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) matched a career high with eight saves in Tuesday's game, while Saint Anselm sophomore Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) made four saves in 65 total minutes of work. Quattropani played the opening half and both overtime periods. Senior Gabriella Primera (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) played the second half of regulation and registered one save.

Saint Anselm entered the game on a four-game unbeaten streak and had claimed a 1-0 win with an 83rd-minute goal against the Purple Knights during both teams' season opener in the Catholic Cup on Sept. 5. Early scoring chances favored the hosts, though, who had three shots, two of which were stopped by Quattropani. The third attempt was turned away by Hawks senior Abby Rumph (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional), who was on the goal line and blocked junior Abby Rajotte's (Abington, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) strike from the left side of the box at 17:20. Rajotte's initial shot deflected off Quattropani's fingers and bounced back to Rajotte, who then fired another strike that Rumph cleared out.

The second half saw Saint Anselm carry a 9-4 shot advantage, with five of the Hawks' shots being stopped by Ouellet, the last coming at 84:29. On that last scoring bid, junior Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba) lined up and booted a shot from the top of the box that Ouellet caught chest-high. Through regulation, Saint Anselm held an 11-10 shot advantage.

The first overtime period had both teams exchange goalkeeper saves in the first 4:24. The Purple and Gold had its best scoring chance of extra time when sophomore Allegra DiCesare (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) scurried toward the net on a breakaway, and let loose a shot that sailed just left of the net at 96:18. Saint Anselm then accounted for four of the game's final five shots, the last coming at 107:05.

The Purple Knights hit the road for their next NE-10 game, where they will face nationally top-ranked The College of Saint Rose at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
