Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team fell on the losing end of a 6-3 decision against Le Moyne College during Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights slip to 1-11-1 overall and remain winless in 10 NE-10 games, while the Dolphins are 2-10-1 and 1-8-1.
Seniors Meagan Brady (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley/Vermont) had a goal and an assist for Saint Michael's, and classmate Cassie Chernicki (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regional) and sophomore Abby Pelon (South Lyon, Mich./Ladywood) also scored. Junior Alyssa Keeler (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) had two assists. Senior goalkeeper Kaylee Sullivan (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) made three stops for the Purple and Gold.
Le Moyne senior Kelly Ristoff netted three goals, junior Alyssa Ricci and sophomore Kirsten Colegrove both provided a goal and an assist, and junior Rachel Terry also tallied. Senior Tori Corsaro collected two saves for the win.
The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead after just 14:41 of play. The Dolphins scored at 6:29 when Ricci's left side cross connected with Terry, who tapped home the ball to the open right side. Ricci then scored a goal at 11:34. After Sullivan's save on Terry's shot, the rebound caromed to sophomore Alexis Kline, who hit the left post, but Ricci scored on a wide-open scoring look. Le Moyne added another marker 3:07 later as Ristoff buried a shot from sophomore Emily Goldasic's corner kick entry feed. Ristoff looked for another tally at 27:38, but Sullivan denied the bid by leaping to deflect the ball over the crossbar.
Saint Michael's pulled to within one goal before halftime after receiving tallies from Brady and Chernicki in the 32nd and 40th minutes, respectively. At 31:58, Keeler sent a through ball to Brady, who darted up the field before burying a shot to the middle of the net. Chernicki then sent a left side free kick just inside the right post at 39:53.
Le Moyne's second-half goal output mirrored the first stanza, as the Dolphins scored a trio of goals on five shots. At 61:57, Colegrove fed a centering pass to Ristoff, who raced in before chipping the ball past Sullivan. Colegrove then buried a shot to the middle of the net at 66:52 after picking up a turnover by the Purple Knight defense. Pelon brought the hosts to within a pair at 69:18, with Brady sending a cross from the left sideline that Keeler touched off for Pelon, who sent a top-of-the-box shot past a diving Corsaro. Ristoff completed her hat trick at 73:27 when her 25-yard strike found the left side.
Prior to the contest, the Purple Knights honored their 11 seniors during a Senior Day ceremony: Brady, Chernicki, Sullivan, Kara Connolly (Woodbury, Mass./Nonnewaug), Bridget Conway (Bethel, Conn./Bethel), Gabrielle Kondracki (Mattapoisett, Mass./Old Rochester Regional), Sabrina Marasco (Delray Beach, Fla./Boca Raton Community), Marianna Nowacki (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton), Megan Pfeffer (New York, N.Y./Saint Vincent Ferrer), Abby Rajotte (Abington, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and Amanda Shanahan (Hull, Mass./Notre Dame Academy).
Saint Michael's hits the road for its next two games, starting with regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Southern New Hampshire is fifth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region poll.
