Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to regionally-ranked Adelphi University on Saturday at Motamed Field in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Purple Knights are 1-4-1 overall and 0-3 in the league, while the Panthers are 4-2 and 3-0. Adelphi is eighth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region poll.
Saint Michael's senior goalkeeper Kaylee Sullivan (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) stopped nine shots. Senior Taylor Groth and sophomores Monica DiDonato and Jeanine Nuñez scored for Adelphi, while senior Kelsey Malles provided two assists. First-year Anne Marie Ulliac posted a two-save shutout.
After Sullivan made a trio of saves in the opening 11:30, Adelphi scored at 11:41 after Groth headed home the ball off of a corner kick by senior Taylor Salmon. The hosts were kept at bay during the remainder of the first half as Sullivan turned in four more stops. At 65:40, Purple Knight senior Amanda Shanahan (Hull, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) had her shot saved and the Panthers responded 50 seconds later with a DiDonato goal as her shot glanced off the right post and in. The Panthers added one final tally at 78:16 as Malles connected with Nuñez on a 2-on-1 rush with Nuñez depositing the goal to the left side of the net. Junior Michaela Horne (Southboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) sent in the visitors' final shot at 86:15 which was stopped by Ulliac.
The Purple Knights return home for a 3:30 p.m. Tuesday meeting against the nationally-ranked University of New Haven. The Chargers are 25th in the latest NSCAA national poll.
