Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision against Saint Anselm College at Grappone Stadium on Wednesday during Northeast-10 Conference play, allowing the game's only goals during a 2:32 stretch late in the first half. The Purple Knights moved to 1-7-1 overall and 0-6 in the league, while the Hawks are 5-3-1 and 4-2.

First-year Megan LeCours (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) made six saves for Saint Michael's. Junior Nicole Rust and sophomore Kaila Sullivan both came off the Saint Anselm bench to score goals, while junior Cassie Quattropani earned the win after making a pair of first-half stops. First-year Elise Bouchard had three more in the second period.

Only two shots made it on frame during the opening 34 minutes of the contest, with senior Rachel Gillies being denied by LeCours in the 17th minute before Purple Knight senior Meagan Brady (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley/Vermont) was turned away less than 90 seconds later.

First-year Alex Matteo (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) was stopped by Quattropani early in the 35th minute, and the Hawks countered with a pair of markers in an ensuing 2:32 stretch, first when Rust headed home sophomore Jessica Kaufman's cross at the right post late in the 35th minute. At 37:27, Sullivan made it 2-0 by slipping a shot inside the right post. LeCours denied Sullivan late in the 45th minute to keep Saint Michael's within two at the half.

LeCours notched a pair of stops 12 seconds apart in the opening 2:06 of the second stanza before Brady had a scoring change turned away by Bouchard in the 52nd minute. LeCours notched saves in the 66th and 75th minutes to help the Purple Knights remain close, and Brady's header was stopped in the 72nd minute. The only attempt from either team in the closing 15 minutes came off the foot of Purple and Gold junior Alana Houlihan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), whose low shot from 20 yards out in the 83rd minute was scooped up by Bouchard.

Saint Michael's returns home for three of its next four games, beginning by taking on Stonehill College on Saturday at 1 p.m. The teams played to a scoreless draw on Sept. 4 during their season openers.
