Women's soccer drops Northeast-10 Conference contest to Bentley, 3-1

Box Score

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team fell to Bentley University, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Saturday at Duffy Field. Following the loss, the Purple Knights hold a record of 3-12 overall and 2-10 in the NE-10. With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-5-2 and 5-5-2.

First-year Lauren Dunn (Truckee, Calif./Sugar Bowl Academy) scored the Purple Knights' only goal, her first as a collegian. Senior Alana Houlihan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) registered an assist and sophomore Megan LeCours (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) made two saves in the contest. For the Falcons, seniors Paige Laliberte and Ana Tantum and junior Peyton Kent each recorded a goal while sophomore Alyssa Valente registered two assists. Junior Deirdre Macrorie made six stops in the win.

In the 11th minute, senior Alyssa Keeler (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) let go of a high shot that was tipped over the crossbar by a leaping Macrorie. The teams fired six shots apiece before entering halftime scoreless.

Late in the 50th minute Valente took a shot from the top left of the box that beat LeCours before junior Abby Pelon (South Lyon, Mich./Ladywood) was able to stop the ball's progress toward goal, however the rebound was gathered by Laliberte, who was able to finish into the empty net at 49:48. At 68:11, Tantum finished on a hard and low shot to the bottom right side of goal after running around a Saint Michael's defender at the top of the box.

Early in the 73rd minute Houlihan sent a ball in off a corner kick that was punched out by Macrorie on the near post, but Dunn was able to gather the loose ball and fire a shot that bounced off of Macrorie and into the ride side of the goal at 72:07. Early in the 84th minute senior Amanda Shanahan (Hull, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) found a loose ball at the top of the box and fired a shot, but her attempt to tie sailed over the net. At 84:13, Kent finished off a 2-on-1 with a low shot to the left corner after receiving a pass from Valente.

The Purple Knights generated four more shots as they trailed 3-1 late in the game. At 87:21, sophomore Emily Durette (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) found room for a shot at the top of the box but missed high. A minute later, senior Michaela Horne (Southboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) fired a hard shot from the top of the box that was blocked by a Falcon defender. At 89:05, Shanahan let go of another shot that was blocked, and just seconds later Horne put a free kick on goal that was saved by Macrorie.

The Purple Knights' next contest is an NE-10 match up on the road against Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
