Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Northeast-10 Conference opponent Franklin Pierce University at Duffy Field on Saturday during Senior Day and the teams' season finales. The win gives the Purple Knights a final record of 4-13 overall and 3-11 in the NE-10. With the loss, the Ravens fall to 7-7-2 and 5-7-2. Saint Michael's is 5-5-1 in the last 11 series meetings, with each win by one goal.
Senior Allegra DiCesare (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) scored the only goal of the game. Sophomore Emily Durette (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) recorded an assist, while classmate Megan LeCours (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) made five saves on her way to her second clean sheet of the season. For the Ravens, junior Casey Cook turned away three shots.
In the 12th minute, LeCours stormed off her line to get in front of a ball intended for a Raven within the box, and she jumped to get in front of the ball and knock it out of bounds for a corner kick. Sophomore Nathalia Maria da Silva sent the ball in off the corner and it was knocked down by junior Andie Devaney (Tolland, Conn./Tolland), but the loose ball was corralled by senior Nicole Chaet, who immediately fired a shot that was kept out by LeCours with a kick save. In the 41st minute, Durette played DiCesare in with a through ball toward the top left of the box. DiCesare ran under the pass and then let go of a shot that hit the upper right corner of goal. The teams entered halftime with Saint Michael's leading 1-0.
In the 69th minute, first-year Lauren Dunn (Truckee, Calif./Sugar Bowl Academy) took a shot from the top of the box that a leaping Cook was able to get her fingertips on for the save, after which the ball grazed the crossbar and bounced directly into the keeper's hands. In the final 20 minutes of play Franklin Pierce forced four corner kicks and fired four shots, with LeCours stopping the only attempt on goal. On the final sequence, in the 79th minute, sophomore Roberta Martire's header during a corner set was turned away by the keeper, and senior Madison Finlay sent a follow-up shot high on the game's last shot.
Before the contest, the Purple Knights honored their six seniors: DiCesare, Agi Chretien (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan), Michaela Horne (Southboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional), Alana Houlihan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), Alyssa Keeler (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) and Amanda Shanahan (Hull, Mass./Notre Dame Academy).
