COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team defeated Daemen (N.Y.) College, 2-1, on Saturday at Duffy Field. With the win the Purple Knights improve to 3-8 overall, as the loss drops the Wildcats to 3-6-2. The out-of-conference match-up marked the first meeting ever between the two programs.

Senior Allegra DiCesare (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) scored twice for Saint Michael's for her first career multi-goal game, and sophomore Sara Rooke (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) added an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan LeCours (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) made one save on the day.

For the Wildcats, first-year Jamie Boyar netted the lone tally and senior Alexis Koral contributed an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Wescott made 11 stops in the contest.

The Purple Knights generated a scoring chance in the 15th minute when first-year Greta Ricigliano (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) tapped a ball to senior Amanda Shanahan (Hull, Mass./Notre Dame Academy), who fired a shot from the top of the box that sailed just over the crossbar. One minute later, DiCesare dribbled the ball about 15 yards to the top of the box before letting go of a shot that got past Wescott and hit the back right side of the goal at 15:54.

At 16:13 Boyar fired the first of Daemen's two shots on target, but the attempt on goal was stopped by LeCours. In the 29th minute Rooke sent a through ball to DiCesare that she finished with a 25-yard chip shot that brushed Wescott's fingertips before finding the net. The teams entered halftime with Saint Michael's leading, 2-0.

At 59:12, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard when Koral played a long ball to Boyar, who chipped a shot up and over a rushing LeCours from 25 yards out. Daemen was unable to generate another attempt at goal in the contest. In the 85th minute Saint Michael's had an opportunity to increase the gap when Rooke played Shanahan into the box with a through ball that snuck past multiple Daemen defenders, but Shanahan's attempt at goal was stopped by Wescott.

Up next for the Purple and Gold is a road contest against Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
