Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, falling at The College of Saint Rose, 3-0, on Sullivan Field during Northeast-10 Conference play. The Purple Knights slipped to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Golden Knights, who are ranked sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) East Region poll, improved to 4-1 and 1-1. Saint Rose has won seven of the past 10 NE-10 Championships while qualifying for 13 of the past 14 NCAA Tournaments.
Sophomore Megan LeCours (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) made three stops for the Purple Knights, who yielded a narrow shots advantage of 12-9 to the hosts. Junior Raven Small had a goal and an assist for Saint Rose, senior Elisa Galbiati and first-year Caitlyn Dabagian also scored, and sophomore Madison Taylor worked the four-save shutout.
Saint Michael's sophomore Emily Durette (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) had the first scoring change for either team, being stopped by Taylor in the third minute, before Small potted the winner at 3:56, finishing a quick feed from first-year Victoria Barris inside the box. LeCours kept it a one-goal game by stopping Barris' dangerous attempt in the 10th minute off a free kick.
In the 25th minute, a Golden Knight rung the post, and Taylor made a pair of tough stops in the closing four minutes to keep it 1-0 at halftime. In the 42nd minute, Taylor came off her line to deny senior Allegra Dicesare (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield), and sophomore back Sarah Williams' (Bronx, N.Y./The Ursuline School) short header was stopped in the 43rd minute when the keeper stretched high.
LeCours again averted further damage in the 55th minute by coming off her line to snag Small's shot, and Durette sent a game-tying bid toward the net two minutes later, but Taylor made her final stop of the contest. In the 64th minute, Dabagian doubled the lead by finishing on the doorstep, and Galbiati iced the victory by converting quick touches inside the box from Small and first-year Nina Predanic at 84:22.
The Purple Knights return home to take on seventh-ranked Adelphi University on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Panthers, who won last year's NE-10 Championship and qualified for two of the past three NCAA Tournaments, are not only seventh in the NSCAA national poll but first in the regional rankings.
