THE ACTION
- The Purple Knights sent the first shot on net, with senior back Brooke Caragher's (Milton, Vt./Milton) free kick rolling to Smith during the 12th minute.
- Following a short corner entry in the 19th minute, senior Kaitlyn D'Amico headed a shot from the box on Escobedo while being well marked by junior back Cassidy Koons (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle).
- Saint Michael's had back-to-back good chances early in the second half, first as junior Zoe Rogers (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) fired a shot from 20 yards in the 47th minute that forced Smith to dive at the right post. Just 30 seconds later, first-year back Elani Gikas (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) lofted the ball high into the wind from deep on the end line that Smith caught near the crossbar.
- Gikas drove a free kick from 50 yards away into the box in the 55th minute that Smith caught amid traffic.
- During the 78th minute, first-year Kylee Slavik's hard shot from 20 yards went directly to Escobedo, and D'Amico had a bid at the left side of the box sail into the outside left netting in the 79th minute.
- Escobedo made one final play in the 88th minute to ensure overtime, sliding to the top of the box to catch and cover graduate student Nadine Hilkert's long free kick. Senior Amanda Dustin had a chance early in the 89th minute, running onto a loose ball and driving a shot wide of the upper left corner from 30 yards away.
- Less than two minutes into overtime, junior Paulina Valentine's (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) hustle play near the end line led to the Purple Knights being awarded a corner kick, and she ultimately jostled for position in the box on the short corner service while having a chance denied by Smith.
- Escobedo punched away a dangerous cross during the 94th minute before joining with Caragher at the goal line to stop Slavik's scoring opportunity during the 97th minute.
- With one second left in the initial extra stanza, Escobedo caught senior Greta Brunello's header from the middle of the box off of a corner kick cross.
- During the second overtime, Escobedo caught Slavik's corner kick cross in the 104th minute before the Owls had a chance to win late, gaining a free kick from 30 yards away, and Brunello touched a teammate's service barely wide of the left post from that side of the box for the game's final shot.
