  • Fifth-year Marika Laurendeau, 3 saves

GAME FACTS

  • Each of the Purple Knights' last 11 games since 2019 had been decided by a goal or less.
  • The Purple and Gold had allowed only four goals in the past seven games entering tonight, and never more than one in a contest.
  • Saint Rose was the 2019 NE10 regular-season and postseason titlist, and advanced to the NCAA Final Four that season, having qualified for 12 of the past 14 NCAA Tournaments.

THE ACTION

  • Saint Rose broke the stalemate in the 16th minute, as sophomore Kelly Coster's long throw-in bounced into the box toward the right post, where Mueller's flick-on header with her back to the frame sent the ball along the goal line and inside the left netting at 15:03.
  • Not long afterwards, senior Maggie Taylor (Lake Forest Park, Wash./Shorecrest) served a 17th-minute corner kick that junior Izzy Ruprecht (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) headed into a defender, and Laurendeau eventually collected the loose ball.
  • In the 31st minute, Taylor took a giveaway at the top of the 18, switched feet, and fired a long one-hopper on net that Laurendeau corralled.
  • Junior Kaelyn Britt came up with a dangerous bid late in the opening half, during the 43rd minute, gaining space at the top of the box by switching from her left foot to right before firing a shot toward the lower left corner, forcing Escobedo to dive for the save. Saint Rose controlled the rebound but sent no further shots.
  • First-year Elani Gikas (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) nearly tied the game in the 49th minute, as her free kick from 30 yards was tipped over the crossbar by a leaping Laurendeau.
  • Saint Rose doubled its lead at 51:24, as first-year Mia Klammer had a shot from the right side of the box stopped by Escobedo before the rebound popped to the middle for an unmarked Bartlett, who found the back of the net.
  • Escobedo made another fine save in the 55th minute, tipping away sophomore Sanna Rein's header ticketed for just under the crossbar.
  • The Golden Knights added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, as a long free kick landed in the box, where first-year Tabitha Mwaura tapped the ball to Grassia for a close-range on Escobedo, who denied the initial shot, but the rebound kicked back to Grassia, who put it home from out front.
