COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team made its home debut on Wednesday with a pair of losses to Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill College, 13-6 and 13-8, at Doc Jacobs Field. The Purple Knights played their first home games since April 30, 2019, while playing just the fifth and sixth March home contests in program history. Game two was a seven-inning affair.

• The Purple Knights played their first home game since April 30, 2019.
• Prior to today, Saint Michael's had played only four home games in the month of March: March 31, 1995, against American International College; March 31, 2000, and March 30, 2006, both with Norwich University; and March 30, 2016, hosting Saint Anselm College.
• Martinez, a junior who is in his first year of college baseball, and first-year Danny Rickert (Williston, Vt./Essex) both picked up their first career hits.

THE ACTION

• Herrick's two-out, two-run double, a flare to left field, gave Stonehill a 2-0 edge in the first inning, and Swanholm's two-run home run keyed a six-run second frame that made it 8-0.
• The Purple Knights halved the deficit by batting around in the third, with Moran knocking an RBI single, junior Mitchell Goulet (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) walking with the bases loaded and Giroux-Harvey coming through with a two-out, two-run single.
• Stonehill got the four runs back in the fourth, with Herrick and Lidsky each knocking RBI doubles.
• In the late stages, Martinez's RBI single back up the box - the initial hit of his career - scored senior Iset Maldonado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) in the seventh before Lidsky poked a two-out RBI single in the eighth. Sophomore Ulysses Luciano's (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy) ninth-inning groundout brought home Moran, who had led off with a double.

GAME FACTS

• Dushney and Luciano collected their first college hits, while Giroux-Harvey, a senior, made his college pitching debut.
• Stonehill used four pitchers, including three relievers who tossed one inning apiece.
• The contest was a regularly-scheduled seven-inning affair, as the NE10's four-game season series will incorporate nine-inning games in the first and fourth contests and seven-inning affairs for the second and third meetings.

THE ACTION

• Kiely and junior Matt Farragher led off the game with back-to-back doubles during a two-run opening frame.
• The Purple Knights went ahead in the home half, as Lanthier and Moran singled consecutively before Luciano's three-run homer to left field put the hosts up 3-2. Moran's two-out, two-run single in the second pushed the lead to 5-2.
• Stonehill countered with 11 runs between the fourth and sixth innings. Swanholm's two-out, two-run home run capped a four-run fourth that put the visitors in front, four straight RBI singles accounted for a four-run fifth, and Ciulla-Hall's two-run homer keyed a three-run sixth.
• In between, Perron's roller down the first-base line hit the bag with two out in the fifth to plate Lanthier.
• Giroux-Harvey finished the scoring with a two-run double in the seventh.
