Baseball Swept by Bentley During NE10 Twinbill to Cap Weekend Series

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team was swept by Bentley University, 7-0 and 11-2, during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Sunday at DeFelice Field. The opener was a seven-inning affair and the nightcap a nine-inning contest, as the teams finished off a four-game weekend series.

THE ACTION

  • Rizzuto singled home the winning run in the first inning, as Bentley scored in five innings.
  • Sophomore Joe Boushell and Berardino had RBI knocks in the second and third frames, respectively.
  • In a 3-0 game, sophomore Ulysses Luciano (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy) walked with one out in the fourth and stole second but was stranded.
  • Rizzuto's two-out, two-run single keyed a three-run home half, and his sac fly plated the final run in the sixth.
  • The Purple Knights strung together a two-out threat in the fifth, with Lanthier beating out an infield single and stealing second before first-year Matt Sevigny (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) and senior Iset Maldonado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) walked, but the final hitter flew out to center field.

THE ACTION

  • Bentley plated eight runs over the first five innings, scoring in every frame. Berardino's two-run triple keyed a three-run first.
  • In the top of the second, juniors Sebastian Oetterer (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and Mitchell Goulet (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) walked consecutively leading off before moving 90 feet apiece on a balk, but they advanced no further.
  • Boushell scored an unearned run in the second, Sears knocked a two-out RBI double in the third, and first-year Jackson Walonis hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-0.
  • Santosuosso and Cianciolo picked up one RBI apiece in the fifth before Bentley got the runs back in the home half, using a sac fly and Boushell's RBI single.
  • Berardino hit an RBI double during a three-run eighth inning.
