Baseball Swept by Saint Anselm, 4-0 and 7-6, in NE10 Twinbill

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team was swept by Saint Anselm College, 4-0 and 7-6, on Friday during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader in Sullivan Park. The Hawks won game two, which was a seven-inning affair, thanks to a walk-off in the final frame.

DOUBLEHEADER FACTS

THE ACTION

  • With runners at second and third and two gone in the home half of the first inning, Pezzolla hit a line drive off of Rodríguez that deflected to the right side of the infield, where senior second baseman Iset Maldonado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) tried making a tough play, but Pezzolla was safe and Doran scored the game's opening run. That proved to be the only run until the bottom of the eighth inning.
  • First-year Zack Clough led off the Saint Anselm second with a single but was cut down trying to steal second by junior catcher Sebastian Oetterer (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips).
  • Lanthier singled with one out in the fifth and stole second but was left there.
  • Oetterer and senior Julien Giroux-Harvey (Montreal, Québec/Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf) began the seventh by being hit by pitches consecutively, but a strikeout and double play ended the scoring bid.

THE ACTION

  • Doran and Pierro both hit solo home runs during a three-run first inning, which was capped by a run scoring on a wild pitch.
  • The Purple Knights scratched away at the deficit, scoring six runs between the third and fifth frames.
  • Maldonado led off the third with a triple before scoring on Luciano's groundout.
  • Saint Michael's went in front with three unearned runs in the fourth, all scoring after a two-out error. Lanthier knocked an RBI double before scoring the tying run on Maldonado's single. Luciano's RBI single made it 4-3.
