COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College field hockey senior Joelle Cameron (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, landing the national accolade for the week ending on Sunday, Sept. 21. On Monday, she was named Northeast 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
Cameron recorded an .877 save percentage despite being forced into 35.5 saves per game last week. She set an NCAA Division II record with 48 stops last Wednesday against defending national champion Saint Anselm College before collecting 23 more in a 2-1 loss on Saturday to Southern Connecticut State University, which needed a final-minute goal to claim the win.
Cameron leads all NCAA Division I, II and III netminders in saves per game (28.7) and is seventh in Division II in save percentage (.815). She owns six of the top 10 Division II game save figures thus far this season, including the best three. With 172 saves, she is eight short of the 37-year-old program record. Cameron owns 347 career stops, 108 short of Jean Harbeck's '90 36-year-old school standard.
