COLCHESTER, Vt.. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team snapped its three-game skid with an 11-8 win over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Duffy Field. With the win, the Purple Knights improve to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in league play, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 1-9 and 0-7.

Sophomore Kate Boyer (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored her fifth hat trick of the season for Saint Michael's, while junior Shannon Murphy (Boxboro, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional/UMass) tallied two goals and an assist. Senior Caitlin Mahoney (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) finished with two markers, and junior Crystal King (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) picked up a goal and two assists. Junior Caroline Casper (Norfolk, Mass./Thayer Academy) and sophomores Hannah Beardsley (Essex, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) and Courtney Piper (Wolfeboro, N.H./Brewster Academy) each netted a goal. Junior Nicole Buckley (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) totaled six ground balls and three caused turnovers, sophomore Taylor Midgley (Hampton, N.H./Saint Thomas Aquinas) had four ground balls and four draw controls, and first-year Casey Curtin (Waltham, Mass./Ursuline Academy) made four saves.

Sophomore Whitney McKay (Painted Post, N.Y./West) finished with three goals to lead American International, while first-year Erica McLean (Branford, Conn./Branford) had a pair of tallies and three draw controls. First-year Stefanie Dufresne (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) recorded a goal and two assists, and sophomore Cheyenne Carden (Branford, Conn./Branford) notched a goal and an assist. First-year Lissy Doherty (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) stopped nine shots and scooped up five ground balls.

Piper gave the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead with a goal 2:08 into the opening half, but the visitors scored back-to-back markers 39 seconds apart to move in front, 2-1. Boyer, Casper and Mahoney all tallied during a 7:51 span to give Saint Michael's a 4-2 before the teams traded the next four goals, leaving the hosts with a 6-4 halftime lead.

After a Yellow Jacket tally 2:01 into the second frame, Boyer converted back-to-back goals at 3:44 and 4:29 to extend the Saint Michael's advantage to three. Mahoney and King added markers at 5:57 and 7:18, respectively, to push the hosts' lead to five goals. American International cut the deficit to three with goals that came 2:24 apart, and each side added one more goal, with neither team scoring in the final 7:46.

Saint Michael's is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Franklin Pierce University at 4 p.m.
