Geoff has long been considered the greatest player in the history of the Purple Knight soccer program. Despite missing his entire freshman season with a broken leg, he led the team in scoring for three years, and graduated as the Purple Knights' all-time scoring leader. As a sophomore in 1984-85, Geoff led the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists for 23 points, as the Knights posted their first winning season (7-6-1) since 1966. In his junior year, he again led the team in scoring with identical stats as his previous season, and the Knights posted their second consecutive winning record (8-6-2) for the first time in the program's history. As a senior in 1986-87, Geoff led the Knights to their historic 13-3-1 mark with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points. Geoff averaged better than 1.5 points per game in his career, and still ranks second all-time in scoring at SMC with totals of 27 goals and 17 assists for 71 points. A two-time All-New England selection at forward, he graduated holding 14 Purple Knight records.
The Knights played an independent schedule in those days - the College joined the Northeast-10 Conference the year following his graduation. Two of the three losses his senior season were 1-0 losses to Division I opponents in overtime (Holy Cross and the University of Vermont). In NCAA Division II competition, the team went 5-0-1, including wins over nationally-ranked New Hampshire College, Pace University, and Franklin Pierce College. Their only tie was with Keene State, who went to the National Championship that year. During his three-year career, the Knights were 28-15-4 - an unprecedented string of success.
Geoff was an honors student in biology, and attended Saint Michael's on an academic scholarship. After graduating magna cum laude in 1987, he attended the University of Vermont's College of Medicine, and graduated with his M.D. in 1991 (earning honors in cardiology and advanced basic sciences). He then joined the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont (now Fletcher Allen), and completed internships in medicine, otolaryngology, and internal medicine, and a residency in neurology. In 1993, he completed three fellowships in epilepsy. Today, he has his own neurology practice (Neurology Services of Danville, Virginia), and is a popular presenter and consultant. A native of Newport, Vt., Geoff and his wife Kelly (who earned a M.A. in Clinical Psychology at Saint Michael's in 1991 and is now a child psychologist) and their 11-month old twins currently reside in Danville. He is also involved in community service in his area, giving open lectures on neurological disorders, and volunteering as a physician at the Danville Free Clinic and numerous 5K road races.
