Knight is considered the greatest end to ever play football at Saint Michael's. He was nicknamed,"Gluefingers" for his amazing ability for catching passes. Scored 16 touchdowns in 21 games during his three-year football career at SMC - an impressive amount when the "running game" oriented offenses of the day are taken into consideration. Gained All-State, All-New England, and All-American honors following the 1949 season. Interestingly, this Charter Member almost did not play football in his senior year because of medical school preparations. A five-minute phone call to his home from athletic director and coach 'Doc' Jacobs changed his mind. "All he said to me was, 'Where the hell are you?'- I was up at pre-season camp the next day." Knight went on to receive his Medical school MD at Georgetown University.
