Jack is possibly the greatest all-around athlete ever to attend Saint Michael's. "Slats" was a three-sport standout, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He was such an outstanding athlete that he was selected team captain in all three sports as a freshman. In football, he was the starting halfback and threw like few could in those days. In baseball, Jack played center field and hit leadoff, batting .303 in 1929 and .352 in 1930. However, it was on the basketball court where Jack found his true fame. He guided the Purple Knights to their first-ever Green Mountain Conference Championship in any sport (1929-30). He also led the entire East in scoring that year, pouring in 199 points in 14 games. Among the honors Jack received -- he was SMC's first-ever GMC MVP, the first-ever Boston Globe All-New England selection, and was named to the All-State team. Jack was also named to Fr. Ralph Linnehan's "All Saint Michael's -- The First 50 Years" Team.
