Peter
remains one of the most successful runners in College history despite competing more than half a century ago. He is second in career wins (10) after holding the record for 11 years, and set three course records and the 5.2-mile program mark. During Peter’s freshman year of 1969, the cross country program was resurrected on campus and found immediate success, totaling a 21-12 dual-meet record over his four years. Peter debuted with a win followed by a pair of runner-up finishes as a rookie, but mononucleosis and shin splints forced him to the sidelines until his junior year. He returned no worse for the wear, winning four races in 1971, taking three more second-place finishes, and breaking the Johnson State course record by six seconds. Now a captain, Peter won five times as a senior and set course records at New England College and Saint Anselm. He was named team MVP as a junior and senior, and also competed on the Nordic skiing squad and ran club track. In the years since he graduated, Peter has been on the University of Cincinnati faculty and a research scientist in pharmaceutical product development for four decades. He has also been an active alumnus, contributing often to the Dr. Gilbert Grady Scholarship and sponsoring a plaque dedicating the Saint Edmund’s 351 faculty office to his father.
