Paul was an outstanding goalkeeper, becoming the starter - and one of the Northeast-10 Conference’s top keepers - as a junior. In 1987, the Purple Knights’ first in the NE10, Paul led the league with a 0.75 GAA and a .934 save percentage while adding six shutouts. His save percentage that season remains one of the highest in NCAA Division II history. The Purple Knights made their postseason debut, going 7-6-5 overall and 3-3-3 in conference play. Paul was named to the NSCAA All-New England first team while also garnering NE10 All-Conference first team laurels. In 1988, Saint Michael’s was 9-8-3 and tied for second place in the NE10 with a 6-1-2 league mark. After defeating Quinnipiac University, 2-0, in the NE10 quarterfinals, the Purple Knights tied Springfield College, 2-2, in a semifinal before falling on penalty kicks, 4-3. Paul made 19 saves. That season, he registered a 0.86 GAA, a .914 save percentage and 10 shutouts, landing on the NE10 All-Conference second team. Upon his induction, Paul still holds school records for lowest career GAA (0.84), highest season (.934) and career (.921) save percentages, most season shutouts (10), most season saves (191) and most keeper minutes in a season (all 1,880 of his team’s minutes in 1988). During his three years with the Purple Knights, the team was 29-17-9 overall and 9-4-5 in NE10 play.
