Like teammate, classmate, and fellow Hall of Famer Phil Ruggiero, Bob Meade was one of the College's great multi-sport athletes. On the basketball court, he was a starting guard for four years, and gained considerable notoriety in the press of that era by scoring more than 70 points in both his sophomore and junior seasons! He was a two-time All-State, First Team selection, and was also the team's co-captain in 1934- 35. On the baseball field, he was also a four-year starter, pitching and playing the outfield for the Purple Knights. A two-time All-State choice in this sport as well, he hit better than .300 in each of his last three seasons, peaking at .331 in his junior year. He was also the ace of the pitching staff in 1934 and 1935, and notched seven victories in his career. He served as team captain in his senior year. On the tennis court, Bob played #2 singles, and teamed with Ruggiero to make up SMC's #1 doubles pair. Remarkably, tennis and baseball shared the same spring season at that time!
