Mike is regarded as one of the most successful tennis players in the history of the varsity program at Saint Michael's. He was a four-year member of the Purple Knight varsity tennis team, playing mostly #2 singles/doubles throughout his career. A tremendous competitor, he amassed a singles record of 32-2, and a doubles record that was nearly as impressive. He was voted the team's Most Valuable Player Award all four years of his career, and was a team co-captain for three seasons. In his senior year, he paced the Knights to a 10-2 overall record, going 11-1 in singles play. At the time of his induction, the 1981 record still ranks as the most successful season in team history. The men's tennis program enjoyed its most successful stretch in SMC history during Mike's career, going 26-10 in match play over the four years. When women's tennis was in its formative years at SMC, Mike and another student accepted the coaching responsibilities, and played vital roles in building the foundation for this very successful program.
