Saint Michael's College

Called the “pioneer” of varsity women’s soccer at Saint Michael’s by her coach, Marcy was a highly skilled player and leader in the earliest days of the program. She played soccer for four years, and, as team captain, led the Knights through their successful transition from club sport to established varsity program. Bob Kasle, head coach, described her as “one of the few athletes I have ever been around who clearly had the ‘it’ factor…an exceptional and unselfish player and leader, with a desire to win and an attitude that demonstrated she was not going to let any of us fail.” Marcy was a natural goal scorer, but because of her skill level and speed, she was called upon to play defensively, shutting down the opponents’ top scoring threats and keeping the Knights competitive in every game. She still figured prominently in the team’s offense, and was annually among the team’s leaders in scoring. In 1983-84, she became the first women’s soccer player in College history to be named All-New England (NEWISA, First Team) – a remarkable feat for someone playing for a new, independent Division II program. Marcy returned to Saint Michael’s after graduation, accepting a position in the admissions office, and served as the assistant coach of the women’s soccer team in 1985 and 1986.
