Ray was Saint Michael's lacrosse's first exceptional attackman, and he remains a legendary figure in Purple Knights lacrosse history over 20 years after his graduation. A key recruit in the lacrosse program's earliest years of varsity status, he played a critical role in its remarkably rapid development into a well respected intercollegiate program. He was the team's top goal scorer over his four-year career, and was the first Purple Knight to crack the 100-point and 100-goal plateaus. Incredibly, Ray scored his 100th goal in just his 34th career game! At the time of his induction, only one other player in program history has scored more than 100 career goals, despite the fact that modern-era student-athletes play many more games in a career than players did during the 1980's. He graduated as the program's all-time scoring leader, and at his induction ranks #7 on that list with 107 goals and 23 assists for 130 career points. He still holds several program scoring records. During his career, Ray was consistently among the nation's top attackmen in goals-per-game average. A team captain as a senior, he was a two-time All Coxe Conference First Team selection. During his career, his team went a combined 24-15 (.615 winning percentage), including an impressive 13-3 in Coxe conference play.
