An eventual two-time President of Saint Michael's College, "Blackie" participated in both baseball and basketball during his undergraduate years at SMC. In his senior year, he was a key contributor for both programs. A starting forward in basketball, he was among the team's scoring leaders as the Purple Knights captured the Green Mountain Conference title and Vermont State Championship. He was named All-State at the close of the 1940 season. In baseball, he was the starting right fielder for the 1940 Green Mountain Conference Champions. In both sports, he was praised for his excellent defensive skills. Fr. Moriarty went on to serve the College in several capacities: Professor of Religion, Moderator of the Student Activities Council, Alumni Director, Development Director, and at the time of his induction is the only man to serve two terms as the College's President (1952-58, 1974-76)! When he began his first term in 1952, he was just 34 years old!
