Bob Ansheles has to be considered one of the greatest tennis players in the history of the sport at Saint Michael's. Despite serving a tour of duty in World War II in the middle of his college career, Bob was a dominant force on the SMC collegiate tennis circuit. He had an overall career singles record of 26-6, winning 81 percent of his matches, and played as the College's #1 seed throughout his career. He was 7-1 as a junior, and a perfect 8-0 in his senior season. After teaching and coaching tennis at Seton Hall for three years, Bob returned to Saint Michael's as an assistant professor in 1950. He served as Assistant to the President here from 1951-55, and also coached the Purple Knight tennis team during that span. He later served on the College's Board of Trustees.
