Lori was an exceptional student-athlete during a time when varsity opportunities for women were not plentiful. She was a very talented runner for the Purple Knights, and is the school’s former record holder for most race wins in a season and career. At one time, Lori held the College’s records for the 3-mile, 5K and 3.5-mile distances, and still holds the marks for the one and two-mile distances. Because there was no women’s cross country team when she first arrived in the fall of 1978, she ran as a member of the men’s team in her first year. That season, she placed in the top seven for the team in every race. She went on to become a three-time All-State honoree, and served as team captain of the College’s first three women’s cross country teams! Lori finished 11th at the Inaugural NCAA Regional Cross Country Championships (1981) in her senior year, just missing a trip to the NCAA Nationals by one place. At the time of her induction, it remains the 2nd best finish by a woman in Saint Michael’s cross country history. Lori also participated in club Track and Field for the Knights, competing against varsity collegiate programs, and finished in the top six at the Vermont State Collegiate Track and Field Championships for three straight years in both the mile and 2-mile races. She received the Roger Keleher ’15 Award in 1982 as the College’s most outstanding senior scholar-athlete, in an era when the award was presented to just one student each year.
