At the time of her induction, Shannon is considered to be the greatest player in the 30-year history of the College’s varsity women’s tennis program. She is the catalyst who led the Knights to a new level of sustained success, as a top tier Northeast-10 Conference program, and multiple NCAA Championships qualifier. As a first-year player, she played mostly at #2 singles (except for the one match she won at #1!) and was a member of the top doubles team. She finished the season at 12-1 in singles play and 10-3 in doubles, playing a key role in the Purple Knights’ then-record 13-match season win total. As a sophomore in 2002-03, she was 13-2 at #1 singles, and 13-1 at #1 doubles. A year later, she was 11-1 at #1 singles, and 11-2 at #1 doubles. As a senior in 2004-05, she was 11-3 at #1 singles, and 10-5 at #1 doubles. The Northeast-10 Conference’s Rookie of the Year in 2001-02, she was named All Northeast-10 Conference seven times. She led the Purple Knights to a 45-13 overall match record (77.6% winning percentage) during her career, and to the first Northeast-10 Conference Championship in program history. She graduated holding several College records, including: best overall career winning percentage – 83.5% (91-18), career wins overall (91) and at singles (47). Shannon was also a talented member of the Knights’ varsity volleyball team as a sophomore and junior.
