    Sportscaster

Tony was the sports director at WCAX-TV for 35 years (1954-89) and always had an eye out for providing great coverage to Saint Michael’s Athletics. Among his most popular sportscasts were those honoring all-state and championship teams as well as interviewing student-athletes in-studio. His nightly sign-off of “Good Night, Good Sports” attained iconic status. In addition to covering the Purple Knights on radio and television for many years, Tony also handled play-by-play for Saint Michael’s men’s basketball for many seasons, not to mention spending much of the 1970s as a backup announcer for MLB’s Montreal Expos. He was named Vermont Sportscaster of the Year five times by the National Sports Media Association, and was honored with the ECAC-SIDA media award in 1978 for coverage of intercollegiate athletics in New England. In 1989, the year he retired, Tony was named Vermont Broadcaster of the Year. He was a charter member of the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame, Vermont Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and Vermont Principals’ Association Hall of Fame. Tony received distinguished service awards from the New England Baseball Coaches Association, Vermont State Athletic Directors Association, and the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
