Marie was one of the all-time greats in the history of the field hockey team, and played a key role in the program’s rise to a level of prominence in the Northeast region. When she graduated in 1989, she was second on the all-time list in goals with 27, and third in total points at 65, while owning three program records. She was the team’s top scorer in her sophomore year, when she exploded for 11 goals and six assists for 28 points (a single-season program record at that time). Overall, the Knights were 34-27-3 during her career, but the 13-4-0 season of 1988 ranks as the most storied year in program history. Marie was a co-captain that year, and scored the biggest goal in Purple Knight field hockey history when she netted the game winner against Bentley to win the 1988 ECAC Championship. This was a major accomplishment, as there was no NCAA Division II Championship in the sport at that time, making the ECAC Championship the major title to be won. The Knights were ranked as high as #7 nationally that season. Marie was named a CFHCA All-America that year, and was invited to participate in the USA Field Hockey Festival in Virginia. An excellent student, she received the Roger Keleher ’15 Award as the College’s most outstanding female senior scholar-athlete in 1989.
